Frequently asked questions
Everything about the trial, plans, your data and the features of yachtcockpit.app.
General
What is yachtcockpit.app?
yachtcockpit.app is the digital ship’s folder for your boat: boat data, documents, maintenance, checklists, crew, berths and costs in one place. You file documents directly under the areas of your boat – such as hull, mast and rigging or engine – so you can find them again in seconds.
Who is yachtcockpit.app for?
For owners of sailing and motor yachts who no longer want to hunt for their papers and maintenance records in folders, emails and scraps of paper. With co-users, your partner, family or a regular crew can work on it too.
Do I need an app from the App Store?
No. yachtcockpit.app runs in the browser on your phone, tablet and computer. You simply sign in at app.yachtcockpit.app. You can take photos directly with your phone camera.
Who is behind yachtcockpit.app?
yachtcockpit.app is developed and run by Michael Jirgal – a boat owner himself and a marine surveyor under the yachtgutachten.at brand. From both roles he knows what is often missing at maintenance, handovers, insurance claims and sales: complete documents that can be found quickly.
Trial and plans
How does the trial work?
Every new account automatically starts with 7 days of Premium. You don’t need any payment details. After 7 days you carry on with the free Basic plan, unless you book Premium.
What is included in the Basic plan?
Basic is free for good and is enough for one boat:
- 1 boat with boat data, photos and marked areas
- Ship’s archive with 250 MB storage
- Service, to-dos, checklists, items and guides
What does Premium add?
- Unlimited boats
- Invite co-users with read-only or edit rights
- My contacts, My marinas and My crews
- Mayday card and emergency radio sheet
- Backup of all data and files as ZIP
- All exports: boat documentation, sales documentation, crew list, damage report
- Expense review and expense forecast
- ID details in the crew list
- 1 GB storage
What happens to my data after the trial?
Your data is kept. Premium features are locked: additional boats become read only, co-users lose access, and contacts, marinas and crews as well as the Mayday card, radio sheet, backup and exports are locked. If you book Premium, everything is back straight away.
There is one exception: ID details are deleted immediately and permanently when you switch to Basic.
How much does Premium cost and how is it billed?
Premium costs €20 per year or €2 per month, VAT included in each case. Billing and invoicing are handled by our payment provider; you can find your invoices in your account under Licensing at any time.
Can I cancel Premium?
Yes, at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current term, i.e. at the end of the year or month; until then you keep using Premium. You cancel in the app under Licensing or by email. If Germany is set as the country in your account, you can also cancel without signing in via “Cancel contracts here” at app.yachtcockpit.app/kuendigen, with your name, email address and customer number. Your account then switches automatically to the Basic plan and your data is kept.
Can I withdraw after booking?
Yes. As a consumer you can withdraw from Premium within 14 days of booking without giving reasons, most easily via “Withdraw from contract” in the app under Licensing. For the days you have already used Premium you pay a pro-rata amount. The details are in the terms and conditions.
Data and security
Who can see my data?
Your account is strictly separated from other customers. Co-users only see your account if you invite them.
For Premium customers, the operator of yachtcockpit.app only sees the basic data of the boats (name, make, length, beam, year built). During the trial and on the Basic plan, the operator can view the content of the account. Details are in the privacy policy.
Where is my data stored?
The app and your data are hosted by our hosting provider Cloudflare. The database and files are stored in the European Union.
How secure is my data?
Data security has been part of the app from the start:
- website and app run exclusively encrypted over HTTPS
- every customer account is technically separated from all others
- passwords are only stored encrypted (hashed), and repeated failed sign-in attempts are slowed down
- uploaded files are checked for their actual file type and only delivered after sign-in
- the operator only accesses accounts with a second factor, and every access is logged
The app’s data is backed up regularly. Details are in the privacy policy under “Data security”.
Is yachtcockpit.app certified?
yachtcockpit.app itself has no certification of its own such as ISO 27001; for a small provider that would be disproportionate.
However, the app runs entirely on Cloudflare. Cloudflare is certified to ISO/IEC 27001 (information security), ISO/IEC 27018 (protection of personal data in the cloud) and ISO/IEC 27701 (privacy management) and is audited annually to SOC 2 Type II – explicitly including the services the app runs on. A data processing agreement under the GDPR is in place with Cloudflare.
You enter your payment details directly with the payment provider; they never reach yachtcockpit.app.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes. With Premium you can download all data and files of your account as a ZIP at any time using the backup. On the Basic plan we will send you a copy of your data free of charge by email on request.
Which files can I upload?
PDF documents and photos as JPEG, PNG or WebP, each up to 10 MB per file. You can crop and resize photos before uploading.
What happens to ID details?
You can only store your crew’s ID numbers on the Premium plan, without a scan. If your account switches to Basic, they are deleted immediately and permanently.
Features
Can I manage several boats?
Yes, as many as you like with Premium. On the Basic plan you manage one boat.
Can I invite other people?
Yes, with Premium. You invite co-users by email and decide whether they may only read or also edit.
What is the Mayday card?
Your boat data becomes a card with the complete MAYDAY radio call: boat name and call sign in the phonetic alphabet, MMSI and fields for position, nature of distress and persons on board. To print and put up next to the VHF radio – with Premium and during the trial.
Does yachtcockpit.app help me sell my boat?
Yes. A complete maintenance history with invoices convinces buyers and surveyors. In yachtcockpit.app you record for every job whether a professional did it or you did it yourself. With Premium this becomes your sales documentation.
